Production

Congratulations to all our Ruahine ROCKERS! They performed marvellously in 'A Giant Mix-Up' last night. This is a culmination of our drama ('The Arts') inquiry. Pounamu team and Room 3 retold 'The BFG' with enthusiastic dancing and acting, and Kupe team performed 'The Iron Man' with some awesome interpretative dance and visual displays.

Mathematics Teaching and Learning at Ruahine School

You may have seen recent reports in the media criticising the Numeracy Project and it’s focus on teaching lots of different strategies for solving problems at the expense of the basics, leading to a decline in Mathematics achievement. You may find it pleasing to know that at Ruahine School we identified these exact issues in 2013 and in the last 18 months we have changed our way of teaching Mathematics to address this.

At Ruahine School our teaching and learning of Mathematics focuses on:

Tararua 7-A-Side Competition

All students Rooms 1, 2 and 3 competed in the Tararua 7-a-side tournament last week. Out of the 8 cups available, we were thrilled to take home 2 - winning both the Junior Rugby and Senior Soccer!

Swimming Sports

Good luck to all those children competing in Interschool Swim Sports on Thursday.

On the 14 March we held our own Swimming Sports at Wai Splash in town. We had a fabulous time. Check out our photo gallery and latest photos to see all our fun! A big thank you to all the parents who helped out.

Camp Raukawa

The Seniors had an awesome trip to Camp Raukawa last with, with Year 7/8 on camp for 5 days and Year 5/6 for 3. The year 7's and 8's faced their own challenges in the first part of the week and then stepped up in the second half of the week to act as leaders to help the year 5's and 6's overcome their challenges. The students displayed our new ROCKERS values throughout the week and their behaviour was ROCKING! I was so proud of all of them!

Tararua 7-A-Side Tournament

On Wednesday Rooms 1, 2 and 4 took part in the Tararua 7-A-Side tournament in Pahiatua. 10 teams represented Ruahine in Hockey, Soccer, Rugby and Netball. Lots of teams made it to the semi-finals and our Year 7/8 soccer team won! Congratulations Shaun, Lachie, Brooke, Trudy, Matthew, John and Jay.

Book Week

In Week 7 we celebrated Book Week. The librarians ran competitions, story related learning took place in classes and we finished with a bang with a book character dress up parade on the Friday. Can you work out which characters these people came as?
